      What Is the Dinosaur Game?

The Google Dinosaur Game — also known as Chrome Dino, the T-Rex Game, or the no-WiFi dinosaur game — is the endless runner hidden inside Google Chrome. When your connection drops, a pixel T-Rex waits on the error page. Press Space and it starts running across the desert while cacti and pterodactyls come at it.

Here you can play it any time, on a computer or a phone, with your internet on or off. There is nothing to download or install.

How to Play the Dino Game

One button to jump, one to duck. The run lasts until you hit something.

      1. Start running

Press Space or tap the game. The T-Rex runs on its own, and your score climbs as it goes.

      2. Jump the cacti

Press Space or ↑, or tap. A quick press gives a short hop; hold it for a bigger jump.

      3. Duck the birds

Press ↓ to duck under pterodactyls. On a phone, touch and hold the lower half of the game.

      4. Run again

After a crash, press Space or Enter, or tap, and you are straight back in.

Why Play the Chrome Dino Game Here

      • No need to go offline

This offline dino game runs here with your Wi-Fi on, and keeps going as a no-internet game if your connection drops mid-run.

      • Phone, tablet or computer

Tap to jump and hold the lower half to duck. On a keyboard, the keys work just like they do in Chrome.

      • Your best run is kept

Your top score stays in this browser, so the HI number in the corner is yours to beat next time.

      • Daily and all-time leaderboards

Strong runs join a shared top five for the day and for all time. Set your name with the 👤 button; no account needed.

      • New runners to try

Switch to a ninja, Santa or a pumpkin-headed hero. The obstacles change; the one-button controls stay the same.

      • Share it or embed it

Save a screenshot of your score, or copy one line of code to put the T-Rex game on your own website.

Tips to Beat Your High Score

The game is simple, but a few habits make long runs much easier.

      • Look ahead

Keep your eyes on the right side of the screen, not on the T-Rex. You get more time to see what is coming.

      • Match the jump to the gap

A short hop clears a single cactus. Save the long jump for wide groups, so you land sooner and stay ready.

      • Drop down fast

Press ↓ while in the air to fall straight back to the ground. It helps when obstacles come close together.

      • Read the bird's height

Low pterodactyls need a jump. Birds at head height can be ducked, and the highest ones fly right over you.

      • Stay calm at night

Every 700 points the screen turns dark for a short while. Nothing else changes, so keep the same rhythm.

      • Know the top speed

The run keeps getting faster, then levels off. Past that point, a high score comes down to steady timing.

The Story Behind the Google Dinosaur Game

Google's Chrome team added the game in 2014 to the page you see when the internet is down. The idea was a joke: with no connection, you are back in prehistoric times. While it was being built, it had the code name Project Bolan, a nod to Marc Bolan of the band T. Rex.

The code is open source as part of Chromium, and this site runs a version based on it, so it plays like the original. In Chrome you can also open it any time by typing chrome://dino in the address bar.

      Dinosaur Game FAQs

      Can I play without internet?

Yes. Once this page has loaded, the game needs no connection. Only the leaderboard needs internet to save a score.

How do I play the Chrome dino game while online?

Play it right here, or open Chrome and type chrome://dino in the address bar.

      Does it work on phones?

Yes. Tap to jump and hold the lower half of the game to duck. Turn your phone sideways for a bigger view.

Where is my high score saved?

Your best score is kept in this browser. If a new best also makes the top five of the day or of all time, it joins the shared leaderboard under the name you set with the 👤 button (or "Anonym"). No account is needed, and the "day" resets at midnight UTC.

Is this the official Google game?

No. This is a fan site and is not affiliated with Google. The game is based on Chrome's open-source code, shared under its BSD license.
